About Dr. Romney
I am a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in the mental health of children, youth, and adults.
After 10 years serving as the Founding Director of the Parent Training Institute in San Francisco, I moved to Hillsboro, Oregon, to provide clinical services to children, youth, and adults full time.
My areas of clinical interest and expertise include working with neurodivergent clients, and helping to address challenges that frequently co-occur with neurodivergency, such as anxiety, depression, and trauma.
My work in individual therapy sessions is client-centered and validates the client’s lived experience. Where appropriate, sessions may incorporate CBT, DBT, ACT, mindfulness and trauma-specific strategies, as needed. For parent coaching, I often use strategies from evidence-based parenting programs, such as the Incredible Years and Triple P Parenting.
My Approach
I view all of my therapeutic interactions through a cultural humility lens: I value and elevate the individual or family’s own expertise, and partner with them to achieve goals that are important and meaningful to them. My approach is respectful, compassionate, and strength-based, and I ensure that my services align with best practices in the field of clinical psychology.
Education
I earned a BA in English from Tufts University and a MS and PhD degrees in clinical psychology from the University of California, San Diego and San Diego State University. My pre-doctoral and postdoctoral clinical training at the Louis de la Parte Florida Mental Health Institute included work in outpatient and inpatient settings, on an assessment team at a private elementary and middle school for students with learning differences, and at a pediatric oncology hospital clinic.
